Ushak Rugs (all wool, new)

-

Ushak is a town in west central Turkey with a tradition of rug production that goes back to the 15th century. Since then Ushak region has been an important and vibrant center of hand knotted carpet weaving. 16th century Ushak carpets are most famous for their bright primary colours and star, medallion and prayer designs. In the 19th century with a demand for oversize carpets from Europe and United States a large scale commercial rug production took place in the region and as of today it still goes on. Our new Ushak carpets are all wool, tied in traditional Ghiordes knots with mostly overall designs and a colour palette based on pastels to please today’s Turkish, European and American tastes. Our Ushak carpets are geniune Ushaks made in the very region, and are not bleached or artificially faded to acquire an antique look.

Custom  production is available ; please inquire.
